FOREWORD

Dear generations of HUFLIT students!

Meritorious Teacher Huynh The Cuoc – Founder of HUFLIT:

HUFLIT’s primary goal is to provide students with the key to success: mastering foreign languages and information technology as essential tools, achieving professional proficiency linked to essential occupations in a market economy, thereby enriching and developing oneself while making a positive contribution to society.

Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan – Rector:

Each of us is born into this life as a miracle and a blessing. Cherish life, always learn, practice, and develop yourself to continuously bring positive values to the world. That is the secret to success.

The Rector’s educational philosophy is to provide learners with knowledge that allows them to pursue happiness and freedom on the foundation of morality and wisdom. When we have knowledge, we have freedom—freedom in thought and freedom in action— to achieve the ultimate goal of happiness. However, such freedom must be accompanied by morality, because excessive freedom can violate the freedom of others, which in turn affects our own.

INFORMATION GUIDE ON THE UNDERGRADUATE TRAINING REGULATIONS AT HUFLIT

For First-Year Students

The contents presented in this document are summarized and simplified to help first-year students easily understand the basic academic regulations at HUFLIT.

1. What is a Training Programme?

A training program is a blueprint of educational and training activities that includes subjects and modules, aimed at specific learning objectives.

2. What is a Credit?

A credit is a unit used to measure the volume of knowledge and learning activities of students in a training program.

3. What is Credit-based Education?

It is a method of organizing training programme by classes for each subject or module, allowing students to accumulate credits for each subject or module and pursue the training programme according to their personal study plan, in line with the university's teaching schedule.

4. What is a Standard Study Plan?

It is the reasonable period set in each training program for students studying at an average level or higher to complete and graduate. Currently, HUFLIT is applying a standard study time of 3.5 years for most of the programs it offers.

5. Maximum Duration for Program Completion

The maximum time for a student to complete the course shall not exceed 02 times the duration of the standard study plan.

6. What is Course Registration?

It is the process for students selecting subjects and modules, choosing the instructors, and selecting the study timeframe according to their individual study plan, in compliance with the training program and the university's schedule.

7. Mid-term Assessment

This is the score assessed by the instructor teaching the module based on the criteria announced by the instructor at the first session of the module and specified in the detailed syllabus of each module. The mid-term score accounts for no more than 50% of the module score, depending on the training program and the type of module.

8. Final Assessment

This is the score from the final examination organized centrally by the university, which is objectively graded by the instructor according to the faculty’s marking scheme. The final-term score accounts for 50% to 100% of the total module score, depending on the training program and the type of module.

9. Course Grade

This is the average score of the mid-term score and the final-term score of the module.

10. Compulsory Courses

These are the modules that all students are required to take, as designed within each training programme.

11. Elective Courses

These are the modules that students have the right choose from a list of elective modules according to the training plan of each program.

12. Accelerated Study (Advanced Enrollment)

This refers to the case when students register for additional courses outside their standard study plan in order to to complete the training program earlier than the standard study time of their cohort.

13. Grade Improvement

This is when a student registers to retake a module with the desire to improve their previous exam score.

14. Course Retake

This is when a student must register to retake a module for which they received a failing score.

15. Passing and Failing Grades

  • A passing grade is a score of 4.0 or higher on a 10-point scale.
  • A failing grade is a score below 4.0 on a 10-point scale.

16. Semester Grade Point Average and Cumulative Grade Point Average

  • The Semester Grade Point Average is calculated based on the scores of all modules studied in the semester, multiplied by the credit hours of each module, and then divided by the total credit hours of all modules in the semester.
  • The Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated based on the scores of all accumulated modules (completed and passed), multiplied by the credit hours of each module, and then divided by the total accumulated credit hours.

The Cumulative GPA is an important indicator, reflecting the student's academic results throughout their undergraduate study.

17. Internship

Internship is the process in which a student performs certain tasks at internship units to apply the knowledge learned at the university, gain practical experience, and seek new knowledge in society. Internship modules typically have 3 to 5 credits, depending on the training program.

(Refer to Decision 742/QD-DNT dated June 26, 2025, of the university)

18. Graduation Thesis and Graduation Project

  • A Graduation Thesis is a research-based essay by a final-year student on a topic within or related to the scope of their major. A Graduation Thesis typically carries 6 to 10 credits, depending on the training program.
  • A Graduation Project is an application-oriented research assignment by final-year students in technical majors. A Graduation Project typically has 6 to 10 credits, depending on the training program.

19. Foreign Language Output Standard (Graduation Requirement)

  • This standard requires a student to accquire a foreign language output standard as one of the conditions for graduation consideration.
  • The type of certificate and the required score for the foreign language output standard depend on the specific training program.

20. Graduation Conditions

  • Students are required to accumulate sufficient modules, credit hours, and complete other compulsory contents as required by the training program, meeting the program's output standards.
  • The Cumulative GPA for the entire course must be average or higher;
  • At the time of graduation consideration, the student must not be under criminal prosecution or currently serving a disciplinary suspension.

21. Graduation Recognition and Diploma Issuance

Students who meet the graduation requirements will be issued a Graduation Recognition Decision and awarded a Bachelor’s Degree by the President within three months from the date of eligibility.
